Quick start + feature guide for every section and device (continuously updated)
Quick Start
This guide takes you from install, login, password change and adding a server, to experiencing each core feature. Each feature is only briefly introduced — see its dedicated doc for details.
0. Before you start: two things to know
- Panel server: prepare one Linux server with a public IP. SSH Everywhere is installed on it — it is the "control center".
- Target servers: the other servers you want to manage need nothing installed — they just need to be reachable over SSH.
> In short: install one "control center", then add all your servers to it, and manage everything from a single web page.
1. Install the panel (one line)
Log in to your panel server and run:
curl -fsSL https://ssheverywhere.com/install.sh | bash
The installer auto-detects your system, installs dependencies, deploys and starts the panel. Follow the on-screen prompt to access it.
- The default install directory is
/opt/ssh-everywhere; if you log in as a non-root user (cloud providers disable root by default), the installer auto-recommends a directory you can write to (such as your HOME). - For detailed install instructions (system support, custom options, upgrades), see the website's Install page.
After installation
1. Note the access URL printed by the script (like http://<your-server-ip>:5501)
2. Go to your cloud provider's firewall / security group and allow port 5501 (many people forget this and can't connect)
2. Log in and change the default password
Open http://<your-server-ip>:5501 in a browser and log in with the default account:
- Username:
admin - Password:
123456
> ⚠️ Change the default password immediately after first login (top-right user icon → User Settings).
3. Add your first server
Click "Add Server" and fill in:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | Custom label (e.g. "Blog server") |
| Host | Target server's IP or domain |
| Port | SSH port, default 22 (NAT servers: the mapped port) |
| Username | SSH user, usually root (cloud providers use ubuntu/centos etc.) |
| Auth | Password or private key |
| Group | Optional, for categorizing servers |
The panel attempts an SSH connection immediately after adding; once it succeeds you'll see the server's card on the dashboard (online status + memory / CPU load / disk). See Server Management.
4. Experience each feature
Click "System Panel" on a server card to open its full panel, with feature tabs on the left:
| Feature | What it does | Doc |
|---|---|---|
| Overview | System info (OS/CPU/kernel) + resource usage | Health & Dashboard |
| Monitoring | Real-time CPU / memory / disk charts | Health & Dashboard |
| Terminal | SSH into the server right in the browser | Files / Processes / Terminal |
| Files | Upload / download / edit / compress | Files / Processes / Terminal |
| Docker | Container management + image gallery + one-click CMS | Docker Management |
| Websites | Site creation / SSL / reverse proxy / rewrite | Website Management |
| Firewall | View rules + add/delete + port forwarding | Firewall |
| Cron | Manage scheduled tasks | Cron Jobs |
| Mirror | Switch to China mirrors | Mirror Source Switching |
| Crash Guard | Prevent OOM/CPU explosions, auto-kill rogue processes | Crash Prevention |
5. Advanced features
| Feature | What it does | Doc |
|---|---|---|
| Tunneling | Connect devices without a public IP (NAT servers / Android phones) | Tunneling |
| Port Tunneling | Map a tunneled device's app port to the panel's public port | Port Tunneling |
| Backup & Restore | Server snapshots, database backups | Backup & Restore |
| Website Management | Site creation / SSL / reverse proxy | Website Management |
6. Manage servers with your AI assistant (MCP)
SSH Everywhere ships with a built-in MCP endpoint, so you can manage all your servers by talking to your AI assistant (WorkBuddy / Claude / Cursor):
1. Open the panel's start menu and click "🤖 MCP / AI Integration";
2. Copy the endpoint (token included);
3. Paste it into WorkBuddy (or any MCP-capable assistant) and save.
Then just say "list my servers" or "run df -h on the blog server". See MCP / AI Integration for details.
7. FAQ
- Can't connect to a server? Check the SSH port is reachable from the panel server and credentials are correct. See FAQ.
- Can't access port 5501? Check the panel server's cloud firewall / security group.
- Want to manage devices without a public IP? Use "Tunneling" + "Port Tunneling". See Tunneling.
- Which systems are supported? See Supported Systems.
Next steps
Congratulations — you've completed the core flow. We recommend browsing in this order:
1. Server Management — add / group / authenticate
2. Health & Dashboard — understand the dashboard data
3. App Store — deploy your first app
4. Crash Prevention — put insurance on your servers
