Backup & Restore

This document explains the panel's "Backup & Restore" feature — remote server data backup, same-IP reinstall restore, and new-IP migration restore.

In a Nutshell

Package a server's important data (website files, databases, configuration) into a backup stored on the panel server, then restore it with a single click whenever needed — whether you are reinstalling the OS or switching to a new server, you can recover quickly.

Overview

The panel can perform remote backups of a target server's important data (website files, databases, configuration, etc.) and restore it when needed — whether you are reinstalling the OS (same IP) or migrating to a new server (different IP).

Use Cases

  • Back up server data on a regular basis to prevent loss
  • Reinstall the OS after a server breaks and recover quickly
  • Switch to a new server (new IP) and migrate the old server's data over

Backup

Backup Contents

The backup scope is configurable and typically includes:

  • Website files (/var/www, etc.)
  • Databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL)
  • Configuration files (Nginx, SSH, system configuration)
  • Custom directories

Backup Method

  • Remote backup: backup files are stored on the panel server (data/backups/<server>/<backup-id>/) and are pulled from the target server over SSH
  • Backups run asynchronously in the background, with progress tracking

Recommended Practices

1. Back up regularly: pair with Cron Jobs or Crash Prevention for scheduled backups, e.g. once a week.

2. Back up databases: databases are the most easily lost data, so back them up more frequently.

3. Check disk space before backing up: backups consume the panel server's disk, so clean up old backups regularly.

Restore

Same-IP Reinstall Restore

Scenario: the server is reinstalled but the IP stays the same.

  • Select a backup and restore it directly to the original server
  • The panel pushes the backup data back to the target server over SSH

New-IP Migration Restore

Scenario: you switch to a new server (new IP) and want to migrate the old server's data over.

  • Select a backup + fill in the new server's IP/account
  • The panel generates a restore plan and deploys the backup data to the new server
  • IP-related configuration in the data is handled automatically (e.g. the old IP in website configs)

Large File Transfer

Large files involved in backup/restore go through a background queue + progress + interruptible mechanism, so they do not block other panel operations.

Notes

1. Backups are full snapshots and take up disk space on the panel server; clean up old backups regularly.

2. Restore is an overwrite operation that replaces existing data at the target location — confirm before running.

3. After a new-IP restore, remember to update IP-dependent configuration such as DNS resolution and SSL certificates.

4. Run database backups during off-peak hours to avoid impacting your service.
